Surgery

At Merrick Animal Hospital, we understand just how stressful it can be to have to bring your pet in for surgery. Even if it’s a routine or common operation, you still want to feel confident that your companion will be safe and will receive the highest quality surgical care possible. We want to put your mind at ease, knowing that every procedure we perform is handled with the utmost care and attention. The safety and comfort of our patients is our highest priority!

Our staff of highly skilled veterinarians, technicians and assistants are experienced in performing a wide variety of veterinary surgical services, from routine spays and neuters to more complex orthopedic procedures including cranial cruciate ligament repair and medial patellar luxation correction, and will make every effort to ensure that your pet receives the very best care available. Our focus on patient safety, pain management, and employing the most current surgical practices is designed to exceed your expectations and put your concerns to rest.

Prior to surgery, your pet will receive a thorough exam, including diagnostic testing, to determine whether they are healthy enough to proceed. We never want to place our patients at risk, so we take every precaution necessary to keep them safe while in our care. Once we have the green light to proceed with the surgery, we’ll then work on developing a customized pain management plan, utilizing only the safest anesthetic products, that will help keep your pet comfortable during the procedure.

During surgery, our veterinarians will adhere to the highest standards of care throughout, focusing on helping your pet achieve the best possible outcome. Our team of well trained, compassionate technicians will remain on-hand to assist with surgery and to closely monitor your pet’s health – before, during and following surgery. We have taken extra care to obtain the most modern equipment so that we can effectively monitor the safety and comfort of our surgical patients at all times.

When surgery is complete, your companion will continue to be cared for and monitored as he or she comes out of anesthesia. A member of our team will reach out to you to explain how everything sent and to arrange for you to come retrieve your pet. When you arrive, we’ll discuss with you any post-operative care instructions that we may have, including a pain management plan if necessary, to help your pet recover as comfortably as possible once he or she returns home.

Whether it’s a simple elective procedure or something more complex and medically necessary to keep your pet happy and healthy, you can count on the team at Merrick Animal Hospital to meet all of your companion’s surgical needs. Our goal is to have your pet fixed up and on the road to recover as soon as possible.
